Income Tax Return Filing
Become a Filer in Pakistan
NTN registration and income tax return filing for salaried people, business owners, freelancers and overseas Pakistanis. We prepare it, you approve it, we file it.
Last date: the return for tax year 2026 is normally due by 30 September 2026. FBR has extended that date in some past years, but it is not safe to count on it. Filed late, an individual pays a Rs 25,000 surcharge under the Finance Act 2026 to get onto the Active Taxpayer List.
Why being a filer matters
Pakistan treats people on the Active Taxpayer List differently from people who are not on it. The gap has widened with each Finance Act, and it now shows up in ordinary transactions rather than only at tax time. FBR now updates the list daily, so a return filed by the due date puts you on it straight away.
Lower withholding on everyday banking
Non-filers are charged withholding tax at higher rates on everyday banking, including cash withdrawals and profit on savings. The exact rates are set by the current Finance Act and change from year to year.
Cheaper property and vehicle deals
People who are not on the Active Taxpayer List pay considerably more withholding tax when they buy or sell property and when they register or transfer a vehicle. If either is in your plans, becoming a filer first is usually the cheaper order to do it in.
Refunds of tax already taken from you
Tax deducted at source throughout the year is not always tax you actually owed. Filing is the only way to claim the difference back, and for many salaried people that alone covers the cost of filing.
Proof of income that institutions accept
Banks, visa applications, tenders and government departments ask for filed returns. A filed return is documentation you cannot produce retroactively in a hurry.
How it works
- 1
Tell us about yourself
Fill in the short form below. It takes about a minute and asks for nothing sensitive. Pick when you would like to be called and we will call you in that window.
- 2
We prepare your return
On the call we agree the fee and send you a checklist of only the documents that apply to you. If you do not have an NTN, we register you first.
- 3
You approve, we file
You review the return before anything is submitted. We file it on IRIS and send you the acknowledgement, so you have proof in hand.
What is included
- NTN registration, if you do not already have one
- Preparation of your income tax return and wealth statement
- Filing on FBR’s IRIS portal and the acknowledgement for your records
- A written note of what to keep during the year so next year is quicker
- A straight answer on whether you are due a refund
What we usually ask for
Not all of it applies to everyone, and we only ask for what does. Nothing on this list goes in the form below.
- Your CNIC
- Salary certificate, or accounts if you run a business
- Bank statements for the tax year
- Withholding tax certificates and deduction slips
- Details of property and vehicles in your name
- Last year’s return, if you have filed before
Start your return
About a minute. We do not ask for your CNIC number, your IRIS login or any figures here, so please do not put them in the notes.
Questions people ask
How much does it cost to file my income tax return?
It depends on which return you need. A salaried return with one employer is straightforward. A business, an AOP or a return with property, vehicles and several bank accounts takes considerably more work, and catching up several past years is different again. Rather than quote a number that is wrong for most people, we look at your situation on the call and tell you the fee before any work starts. The call itself costs nothing and there is no obligation.
What is the deadline for filing my return?
For individuals and associations of persons, the income tax return for a tax year ending 30 June is normally due by 30 September of the same year. FBR has extended that date in several past years, but it is not safe to plan around an extension. If the deadline is close, tell us on the form and we will prioritise your case.
What happens if I file after the deadline?
You can still file, but it costs more. A return filed after its due date does not put you on the Active Taxpayer List until you pay a surcharge, which under the Finance Act 2026 is Rs 25,000 for an individual and Rs 50,000 for an association of persons. FBR can also charge a penalty for filing late. Filing by the due date avoids both.
How do I know I am on the Active Taxpayer List?
FBR lets you check any CNIC or NTN against the Active Taxpayer List on its website and in its Tax Asaan app. The list is updated daily, so a return filed by the due date shows up quickly. Once your return is filed we check your status and tell you.
I have never filed a return. Can I still become a filer?
Yes. If you do not have an NTN we register you first, then prepare and file your return. Most of our clients start exactly here, and being new to it does not complicate anything.
I have not filed for several years. Can you catch me up?
Usually yes, and it is common. Each year is a separate return, so we work out which years are still open for you, what each one needs and any surcharge or penalty involved, then agree an order of work with you. Tell us roughly how many years on the form so we can prepare for the call.
What documents do you need from me?
It depends on your situation, and we only ask for what applies to you. Typically: your CNIC, a salary certificate if you are employed or accounts if you run a business, bank statements for the year, any withholding tax certificates or deduction slips, details of property and vehicles you own, and last year’s return if you have filed before. We send you a short checklist after the call rather than asking for everything up front.
Do you need my FBR IRIS password?
Your return is filed on FBR’s IRIS portal against your own registration, so some access is needed at the filing step. We explain exactly what is required and why on the call, before you share anything, and you never have to send credentials through this form. If you would rather keep your login entirely to yourself, say so and we will tell you how that works.
Is the information I enter here safe?
This form asks only for enough to have a useful first conversation: your name, how to reach you and what kind of return you need. It does not ask for your CNIC number, your IRIS login or any financial figures, and you should not put them in the notes box. Anything sensitive is collected later, once we have spoken and you know who you are dealing with.
I live abroad. Can you still file for me?
Yes. Overseas Pakistanis with Pakistani income, property or bank accounts often need to file, and being a filer matters for property and vehicle transactions back home. Choose Overseas Pakistani on the form and give us a number that reaches you on WhatsApp, and mention your time zone in the notes so we call at a sensible hour.
Is this the same thing as Tax It invoicing software?
No. Tax It is our software for FBR digital invoicing, which is a sales tax obligation for businesses. Income tax return filing is a separate service where we do the work for you. You do not need one to use the other.
Aam sawalat
Filer kaise banein?
Filer banne ke liye do kaam hote hain: FBR ke IRIS portal par registration (NTN), aur phir income tax return aur wealth statement file karna. Return file hone ke baad aap ka naam Active Taxpayer List (ATL) mein aa jata hai. Hum registration se le kar filing tak sab kuch aap ke liye karte hain.
Income tax return ki aakhri tareekh kya hai?
Tax year 30 June ko khatam hota hai, aur individuals aur AOPs ke liye return aam tor par 30 September tak file karni hoti hai. FBR ne kuch saalon mein yeh tareekh barhai hai, lekin is par bharosa karna mehfooz nahi.
Aakhri tareekh ke baad return file karne par kya hoga?
Return phir bhi file ho sakti hai, lekin Finance Act 2026 ke mutabiq deadline ke baad file karne walay individual ko Active Taxpayer List mein aane ke liye Rs 25,000 surcharge dena parta hai, aur AOP ko Rs 50,000. Is ke ilawa FBR late filing par penalty bhi laga sakta hai.
Kya salaried logon ko bhi return file karni chahiye?
Ji haan. Tankhwah se tax katta hai, lekin filer sirf return file karne se bana jata hai. Return file karne se aap ATL mein aa jate hain, aur agar zaroorat se zyada tax kat gaya ho to refund claim ho sakta hai.
Return file karwane ke liye kya documents chahiye?
Aam tor par: CNIC, salary certificate ya business ka hisaab, tax year ki bank statements, withholding tax certificates, property aur gaari ki tafseel, aur agar pehle return file ki ho to pichli return. Call ke baad hum sirf wohi list bhejte hain jo aap par laagu hoti hai.
