Why Tax It
Why Pakistani Freelancers Choose Tax It
Built for One-Person Operations
Most FBR digital invoicing platforms assume a finance team. Tax It is built so a single freelancer can issue an invoice in under 60 seconds. No accountant required.
Mock Mode for Testing
Practice the FBR flow in mock mode while you wait for your IRIS sandbox token. Generate realistic-looking FBR invoice numbers and QR codes without touching FBR live systems.
Plans That Fit a Freelance Budget
The Basic plan covers 50 invoices a month for PKR 2,999, which fits almost every Pakistani freelancer running a steady book of monthly retainer clients. No setup fee, no contract.
Service Invoices Done Right
Freelance work is services, not goods. Tax It picks the correct sale type from the FBR reference data, supports MONTH and HOUR as UOM, and handles the IT export concession rate for software exporters.
Compliance
FBR Digital Invoicing for Freelancers, in Pakistani Terms
Pakistan's freelance economy has grown from a side activity into one of the country's most important contributors to IT exports. Tens of thousands of Pakistani freelancers serve clients in the US, UK, Europe and the Middle East across software development, UI design, content writing, video production, consulting, marketing, and translation. As that scale has grown, FBR has steadily widened the scope of digital invoicing to bring registered freelancers and independent professionals into the same compliance framework as larger businesses.
Under SRO 69(I)/2025 and SRO 709(I)/2025, every covered B2B sales invoice must be transmitted through FBR's Digital Invoice System before the customer receives their copy. For a freelancer invoicing a Pakistani company, that means the invoice has to carry a 22-digit FBR invoice number, a PRAL verification code, and a QR code that the buyer can scan with the FBR Tax Asaan app. Most freelancers were not building this in-house, and most ERP-style invoicing platforms were overkill. Tax It exists to close that gap.
The flow is straightforward. Sign up at taxit.pk, create your single-person company, register your customers as you onboard them, and pick a product or service from your catalog when you create an invoice. Tax It builds the FBR JSON payload, signs it with your Bearer token, parses the response, and gives you a print-ready PDF with the QR code and the FBR invoice number already rendered. The sandbox token setup guide walks through the IRIS request flow.
Pakistani freelancers serving international clients usually do not need FBR digital invoicing on those export invoices because foreign clients are outside the FBR jurisdiction. But the moment you invoice a registered Pakistani company, even a small consulting client, you fall into the same digital invoicing rules that apply to a larger business. Tax It handles both cases. International invoices are issued under the IT export concession at the appropriate sale type. Domestic invoices flow through the full FBR digital invoicing pipeline.
For Pakistani freelancers operating from Islamabad, Lahore or Karachi, the same compliance rules apply. The Basic plan at PKR 2,999 per month covers up to 50 invoices, which fits the vast majority of solo freelance practices. As you scale into a small studio with multiple contractors, the Professional plan at PKR 7,999 per month unlocks 500 invoices, 5 branches and 10 users. If you want the deeper explanation of how DI FBR integration actually works, the plain-English explainer covers the API flow end to end.
Tax It also handles the unusual but increasingly common case of a Pakistani freelancer working with a federal government department or a public sector buyer. Those buyers hold FTNs and act as sales tax withholding agents under the Eleventh Schedule. The platform tags those customers as government, suppresses the 4 percent further tax that does not apply, and shows the 1/5 sales tax withholding on the invoice display. The penalty calculator can show you what your real FBR exposure looks like across a year of freelance invoicing if you delay integration.

FAQ
Freelancer Questions
I am a Pakistani freelancer with mostly international clients. Do I need FBR digital invoicing?
For invoices to clients outside Pakistan, no, FBR digital invoicing does not apply. But the moment you invoice a registered Pakistani business, even a small consulting engagement, the invoice falls under SRO 69(I)/2025 and must flow through the FBR Digital Invoice System.
Do I need a company NTN, or can I use my CNIC?
Sole proprietors and registered freelancers in Pakistan typically use their 13-digit CNIC where the NTN field is requested. If you have registered a business and received an NTN, use the NTN. Tax It handles both transparently.
Is the Basic plan really enough for a freelance practice?
For most Pakistani freelancers running 5 to 25 active retainer clients, 50 invoices a month covers the standard month-end billing cycle comfortably. As you scale into a small studio with 5 or more contractors, the Professional plan at PKR 7,999 unlocks 500 invoices a month, 5 branches and 10 users.
Can I use Tax It without a sandbox token while I wait for IRIS to approve mine?
Yes. Mock mode lets you practice the entire invoicing workflow with realistic-looking FBR invoice numbers and QR codes. When your sandbox token arrives, paste it in and switch modes.
I am an IT exporter. Does Tax It support the IT export concession rate?
Yes. Tax It pulls the FBR sale type reference data including the IT export concession rates, so when you create an export invoice for a foreign software client, you pick the right tax line.
What if I miss the FBR digital invoicing requirement on a Pakistani client invoice?
Under Section 33 of the Sales Tax Act 1990, the per-invoice penalty starts at PKR 10,000 or 100 percent of the tax involved, whichever is higher. The penalty calculator at /penalty-calculator gives you a personalised estimate.
